Quilts of Valor

DSC01581I worked on the “Quilts of Valor” today since the patterns were mainly strip piecing.  At my last guild meeting, Lynn handed out kits that were pre-cut to piece the tops to.  I took two kits to assemble.  I still have to attach the borders, but the blocks are assembled.  I hope to have them done before the next meeting.

I have applied to the Stash Quilts webring  I was trying to apply when the other ring went down and couldn’t get through.  I don’t know if I will get in.  I am trying hard to make quilts primarily out of stash.  I am vowing that I won’t buy anything new, unless it is to complete a project.  Now… I know some things I will have to buy for that I have planned, but I amDSC01588 going to finish UFOs and stuff from my stash.  I am not a member yet, but it says when you apply that you have to put the code on your site.  So that is why you see the webring code in the sidebar.  This is the view when I stand at the end of my driveway. The weather has been nice today.  Not unbearably hot.  I finally got some housework done that has been neglected during the heat wave.  It was too hot to think, much less move!!  Laundry and dishes and much needed sweeping.  Mopping will have to wait till after workout tomorrow though.

My husband should be back hopefully on Tuesday.  I can’t wait!!  He has been gone since last Wednesday.  I know in the grand scheme of things that 13 days isn’t bad at all, but I am ready for him to be home.  It will be a preview of when he is gone in starting in January for 3-4 months.  Even though he got back from a 6 month deployment in March, we just got settled into a routine - my daughter was finally sleeping in her own bed.  Potty training went out the window.  I am hoping to get her trained by October, but I am not going to push her.

I have been surprised that I have been able to get as much sewing done as I have - I expected to get nothing done other than patterns.  I have worked on some patterns - Spring Dance is very near to completion - then need the tester to read through it one more time to make sure it makes sense.  I have also decided to do a larger version of the Twisted rail - Quilt of Valor size.  It will also give you an idea if you want to make it larger, how to lay it out so it comes out even.  So far I have gotten the fabric requirements done.  Since the pattern has basically been written already, it shouldn’t take long at all.

It is hard to believe that July is almost done - it seems like it just started a few days ago.  I did manage to get most of my goals (with the exception of my Spring Dance)  and then some done.  I just don’t see  getting Spring Dance completed with my husband gone right now.  Easier projects for the little time I do get to have to myself call me first.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

  1. Hang in there kiddo— There will always be quilts, there won’t always be babies…. I can remember exactly what you’re feeling. But you’ve got your priorities straight, that little girl has to come first. Enjoy your weekend.

  2. I think the 2nd one works a little better with that lighter strip between but hey, you were just working with a kit. Good for you taking the time to sew them up.

I bet many of us in the stash webring read your posts but I don’t know if Judy still plans on limiting the group size–she didn’t say other than we may have been abandoned by the alt ring.
