Catching Up

Well, after a week of being absent from blogland, there is some catching up to do.

Our guild had a speaker Monday night, Lois L. Hallock. While her presentation was great, and I learned a lot. I do reccommend the book - there are some good lessons learned by reading it.

Monday night was also the night I had to turn in my quilt for the quilt show.

Guess what?? I actually finished it in time! I put the final stitches in the binding just a few hours before having to turn it in. I even washed and dried it for the “crinkly look”

So do you want to see it?? You do?? Ok.. I guess I will show it to you.

Here it is. I had wanted to do some “curvy” stitching on it, but there wasn’t enough time and I am not very good at it.

The photo was taken at our guild’s show. It turned out great. There were quilts inside and outside. I did end up standing outside for several hours holding quilts from flapping in the breeze - along with several guild members - so they wouldn’t come tumbling down.

My feet were so sore by the time I was done and could pick up my quilt, I was in pain walking to my car. It was my own fault - I wore bad shoes for lots of standing/walking. I even knew that when I put them on.

Today was my son’s birthday - we didn’t do much. I let the kids play in the wading pool for a while. My son asked if we could go to applebees for dinner so we did. We gave him the choice of a party close to his birthday or a party after school started - he chose after school started so he could invite his school mates. So his party will be in a couple of weeks - school doesn’t start until the 7th and then I will wait a week or two to get settled into school before I send out invitations.

My husband is on leave for two weeks - I should probably be able to get lots of quilting done. We are going to the beach again tomorrow though. Another good thing coming up - dh has an appointment for the big “V” councelling on the 5th - I have to go with him to give my approval — boy - they won’t know what hit them; I will ask them “how soon can you do it - can you do it today?” So barring any accidents, we are done with having any more children. I have actually been ready since my daughter was 6 months old and I had a misscarriage - it just took a while to convince my husband.

  1. Welcome back Kim! I’m glad you were able to get the site switched over to a new host and back up and running! Your quilt is absolutely stunning! My colors indeed!

I think your quilting on it looks fabulous! I’m going to try cross hatching on my next one.

  2. Glad your back. I like the new look. Your quilt looks great. That just pulled from the drier, crinkly, wrinkly look is my fav.

  3. The quilt looks wonderful, Kim and good to have you back online. I bet it was hard to get any good pictures of the quilts with the wind flipping them about but boy did the quilting lines show up well in the natural light!

  4. Great to see you back online.

Love your quilt..the colors are really pretty. Have to laugh at your “V” surgery……I took care of THAT before I even came home with the 3rd…nobody is going to put me thru that again! 3-9# babies are enough for any woman.

  5. Love the grey and red combination - and I especially love the crinkly look. Here’s hoping your feet recover quickly. Where was your show? I’d love to come up to see it some time. Is it always the same date as the Buggy Barn show?

  6. So glad you’re back… Hope this server works a little better for you :-)

Your quilt is wonderful! I love the mutitude of quilting lines. Well done.

  7. What a wonderful quilt. It isn’t colors we often see these days, and I think I like it more because of that. The curved quilting might have been nice, but this looks terrific.

  8. That quilt is beatiful. I love the fact it is flapping in the breeze… so summery.

  9. Kim, the quilt is beautiful, and good luck with the big “V” — I never had that issue (late marriage/no kids) but my youngest DB has 3 kids under 6 and whines incessantly whenever the subject comes up!

  10. That quilt is beautiful. I really like the colors and the large on-point medallion.

  11. What a beautiful quilt!

  12. [...] I got back to sewing after the big finish of Spring Dance. After sewing so much in so little time, I didn’t feel like it for a week. [...]

  13. [...] The little trashcan on the desk is a recent purchase from the dollar store. It will get moved down to the floor when I actually sew for threads and too-small scraps. I also plan on taking it with me to retreat at the end of the month. The fabric was folded using the method that was taught to us by Lois L. Hallock when she spoke to our guild. [...]
